Hi sweeties,
For about 6 months my husband Aly and I have been planning the design of our future dream home. We have decided to spend the rest of our family life (after my husband’s football carrier is finished; in about 5 or 6 more years) in Belgium. I was gifted a very nice building lot right next to my parents’ house by my grandparents, just like my sister. I know right, how lucky are we? And even though we might only permanently live here in about 5 or 6 years, we do already want to have our house built and finished in a couple of years to be able to spend the off-season in our own home in stead of always having to rely on my parents while in Belgium. So, that’s when I e-mailed our architect and he’s working on our first plan as we speak.
Being the interior design lover as I am, I wanted to take a look on Pinterest to find some inspiration. That’s where I created a board called “My Dream Home“. I would describe my style as ‘Farmhouse Chic’.
Color palette
As you can see, I love the more neutral and beach-y tones. My parents always had a beach/maritime theme in their living room and that’s where I got my inspiration from. I want our house to have a relaxing vibe with soft colors. I absolutely hate these ‘cold’ houses where all the walls are painted white.
The hallway / entrance
The hallway is the first impression that your guests get when they enter your house so that’s why you should make sure it totally represents your style. For me, this means a big wooden staircase and a beautifully decorated side table.
The living room / dining room / kitchen
In our house we will have a fully open living room / dining room / kitchen. I like to have it open to create a feeling of having space. You’ll see the beach theme clearly in this area of the house. Mixing all beige sandy colors with the ocean blues, that just screams to me: RELAX.
The bathroom
For the bathroom I love the idea of having a mosaic shower or a stone detail like you can see in the picture below. Doesn’t it remind you a little of a spa?
The bedroom / children’s bedroom
Our bedroom has to be THE room in the house where my husband and I can relax by ourselves, which means I’d love to have some lovely (wingback) chairs in there. I guess it’s clear that I’m a big fan of beige colors, right? I just think it’s a soft color and goes easy with everything in a house. My ideas on our children’s rooms are to make them totally dreamy (for Lily of course). I would love to include some soft pinks and a cute light chain.
The outside
The outside style I want our house to be build in is as we would call it in Dutch “pastorijstijl” or “landelijke stijl” which literally means pastoral style or country style in English but you’ll get something totally different then when looked for in Dutch.
I hope I have inspired some of you with my own style and would love to hear from you what your style is and if you love this one as much as I do.
XOXO
